Tokyo Bank Architectural Scale Model

Set Designer / Digital 3D Modeler

A story point in Pachinko is that of Soloman trying to climb his way up the corporate ladder and in doing so they demonstrate many of the large architectural developments that were happening in Japan in the 1980’s. To show help display this, the writers requested to have a large architectural model in the Tokyo bank set. This model was of a new high rise building to be built on a piece of land that the bank was trying to secure. I had the opportunity to design this building by creating a 3d model of the high rise and surrounding area using Revit. I also set up the files for laser cutting, and drew up sections and plans for our model builders to work off. Vancouver Art Department did an amazing job constructing the main high rise for us. We also had another model builder making the base and surrounding buildings. Finally, our Art department assistant and I spent the day assembling the entire model for presentation. It was a collaboration of many people and was a joy to create.

Model Finished Photos

Below are the photos we took of the final product. We built it at a 1:200 scale and it was 3’-0” x 4’-6” in size.

The model was moved around the set according to scene, however this is a photo of it in one of the offices in the Tokyo Bank set.
